Q. Tell us about your store! What made you decide to open up your own retail space?
A. With a degree in Geology and a love for the chaotic world of retail, I originally wanted to open a rock shop. I began working for the original owner of Lively Kids for experience and quickly couldn't imagine my life without the little shop. When I had the opportunity to take over and make Lively Kids my own, I took the leap. It's been five years and Lively Kids has grown with me as my family has. Now a mom of two, my boutique is my passion and an extension of my family and the community we live in.
Q. What is your favorite thing about running your store?
A. What's not to love? I have the best customers and the most adorable, timeless products. I love that every day is different. The next delivery of goods brings new treasures to the shop while the next customer brings us a new story and connection. It's priceless being able to bring my girls to the shop with me and show them what it is to do something that you love.
Q. How do you select the brands you carry?
A. As a small business owner, I know how important it is to support other small businesses . I strive to find brands that create unique, quality items that can be passed down for generations to come.
Q. What does a typical day look like for you?
A. Lively Kids is one of the first shops to open each morning in our beautiful seaside downtown. Our two adorable mannequins pop out to the sidewalk to greet those headed to work, getting coffee, or dropping their kids off at school. From there, the day is filled with the friendly faces that pop in to shop and say hello. We stay busy adding collections and filling in products as the day goes on until it is finally time to bring our charming mannequins back in for the evening.
Q. If we had one day in your hometown, where should we visit?
A. Newburyport is an incredible place to visit. The shops and restaurants are the heart of our downtown, but the nature that surrounds us is also what makes our hometown so special. Plum Island beach and reservation, the sights along the Merrimack River, and the beautiful nearby parks are a must-see.
