Q&A
Q. Tell us about your store! What made you decide to open up your own retail space?
A. I was working in the fashion industry which left me feeling overworked and underappreciated. It ignited a fire in me to create something of my own so I started selling vintage kids clothes on Etsy, at flea markets, and eventually my own brick & mortar.
Q. What is your favorite thing about running your store?
A. The relationships and friendships as well as the many lessons and wisdom I've gained along the way.
Q. What does a typical day look like for you?
A. I like to start my day with "The Hour of Power" which kicks off before anyone in the house is awake. It starts with gratitude, then meditation and positive words or something enlightening to keep me grounded and off to a great start. I exercise then go off to the shop! I'm always on the go, multi-tasking the management/shop duties and my son's school/activities. Then I settle down back at home and unplug with my family.
Q. If we had one day in your hometown, where should we visit?
A. I was born in Japan so I would say Tokyo is a must! But my background is Filipino, so if you're visiting the Philippines, go to Palawan or Bohol!
Q. How do you select the brands you carry?
A. We select brands that our customers want or styles/aesthetics that are trending.
Q. Is there anything else you want to share about your store?
A. Creating and designing memorable experiences is my passion. Doing meaningful work through my business fills my heart and gives me purpose. At Sweet Threads, we've had unique opportunities to stretch our creativity from designing a children's vintage-inspired clothing line to hosting events and bringing awareness to 85+ BIPOC and Special Needs Owned small businesses. One of our most recent accomplishments was hosting and event planning Long Beach Ube Fest in Belmont Shore with 2500+ in attendance.
